DISMISSED: Oklahoma Sooners and John Mateer BLASTED as ESPN, Analysts Declare Season Over

Oklahoma Sooners stumble to 2-2, sparking intense scrutiny as ESPN and analysts like Matt Berry and Paul Finebaum declare the team “done” for 2026. With John Mateer’s struggles at quarterback, fan confidence in Brent Venables and the offensive staff has hit a low point. Are structural coaching changes on the horizon, and could a mid-season quarterback switch salvage the Sooners’ season before their pivotal Texas showdown?

John Williams and Jay Smith break down Oklahoma’s defensive strengths—one of the SEC’s top units—contrasted with glaring offensive inefficiency and troubling run-game issues. The hosts examine advanced metrics, offer insight on key position battles, and debate whether players like Whitt Newbauer should get the nod at quarterback. Can Oklahoma rediscover its swagger and contend for a bowl game—or is another year of heartbreak inevitable? Tune in for a spirited analysis packed with stats, bold predictions, and tough questions for Sooner Nation.
