“AI’s Scariest Week Yet” and three practical responses

AI pioneer Demis Hassabis believes artificial intelligence will be “the most important invention that humanity will ever make.” Whether its importance will ultimately be positive, negative, or both is, of course, still to be determined. Recent reports that AI models escaped controlled environments, accessed the open internet, and hacked outside systems are raising new questions about how much control humans actually have over the technology we’re creating. How should we respond when we feel powerless against forces we cannot understand or control?
