BO HORVAT ERA: New York Islanders CAPTAINCY Choice Will SHAPE Playoff Hopes & Locker Room

The New York Islanders tap Bo Horvat as their new captain, sparking questions about leadership and playoff ambition. With over 450 fan votes backing the decision, Horvat succeeds Anders Lee while standout names like Mathew Barzal and Matthew Schaefer await their roles in the team’s hierarchy. Can Horvat’s proven leadership and scoring touch guide the Islanders back to postseason glory?

Gil Martin breaks down Horvat’s fit as captain, rookie scrimmage takeaways—including Daniil Prokhorov’s breakout and Victor Eklund’s skill moves—and coach Peter DeBoer’s vision for a defense-first Islanders identity. Analysis centers on the importance of Ilya Sorokin’s workload, Vitek Vanacek’s backup potential, and the battle for alternate captain spots. Plus, a look back at fan-favorite Mick Vukota’s unforgettable hat trick. Are critics underestimating this resilient squad, or is a return to playoff form on the horizon?
