DOWN EARLY: Islanders Battle but Can't OVERCOME Lightning, Ilya Sorokin and Power Play Analyzed

The New York Islanders defensive speed woes haunt them in a hard-fought 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. With Ilya Sorokin struggling in net and the pairing of Ryan Pulock and Adam Pelech exposed by Tampa’s relentless attack, the Islanders are left searching for answers as their early playoff hopes hang in the balance. Can head coach Peter DeBoer fix the blue line’s lack of mobility before it’s too late?

Gil Martin breaks down Tony DeAngelo’s offensive spark, Bo Horvat’s inspired captaincy, and the team’s encouraging power play resurgence—even as familiar problems threaten to undermine their progress. Key topics include Alexander Romanov’s absence, the battle for roster spots with young defensemen, and whether the Islanders have the grit and structure needed for a postseason run. Don’t miss this timely analysis as New York prepares for a crucial showdown against the Vancouver Canucks.
